Impact NW launches community art project, raising awareness for its upcoming I AM Impact event

The Portland nonprofit is asking for volunteers to help with its I AM Impact community art project, which will serve to beautify Impact NW’s Dancing Tree Resource Center

PORTLAND, Ore., May 7, 2021Today, Impact NW announces the I AM Impact community art project, and is calling for volunteers to assist with the event. The art pieces have been created to embody the Impact NW mission of preventing homelessness by partnering with people as they navigate their journey to stability and opportunity. The nonprofit organization is also asking for volunteer and community support to help complete the project. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up to come fill in the outlined mural paint-by-numbers style, no painting expertise or experience necessary. The art project is organized and launched by the Impact NW Ambassador Board, and will serve to both beautify Impact NW’s Dancing Tree Resource Center and call attention to the organization’s upcoming I AM Impact event. The community art project, which will span over both Saturday May 8th and Sunday May 9th from 9am to 6pm, will take place outside and will adhere to all social distancing protocols.

“We are so excited for this art installation, which has been carefully created to represent the Impact NW mission and community,” says Impact NW Executive Director, Andy Nelson. “Our hope is that the project, which will primarily adorn our Dancing Tree Resource Center, can also be viewed at future Impact NW events, such as our upcoming I AM Impact event to prevent homelessness. Taking place virtually on the evening of May 27th, this is our premier event of the year, and we look forward to raising support for our vulnerable neighbors here in Portland as we embark on pandemic recovery.”

The I AM Impact community art project was an idea originally proposed by the Impact NW Ambassador Board as a way to add beauty to a key space serving Impact NW program participants, to generate awareness for the upcoming I AM Impact event and to promote Impact NW’s overall mission of serving Portland’s community members facing housing insecurity. Launched in 2018, the Impact NW Ambassador Board is composed of emerging professionals who act as Impact NW spokespeople, promoting Impact NW to their personal network and fostering the next generation of Impact NW supporters.

“The Ambassador Board wanted to do something special this year to promote the upcoming I AM Impact event,” shares Leslie Martinez, Impact NW Ambassador Board member and team lead on the art project. “With the ongoing pandemic affecting in-person events and seriously impacting our community, it was important to us that we designed something positive and lasting that generates interest and awareness for the organization. As a member of the Impact NW Ambassador Board, I look forward to seeing how the piece turns out!”
