Voluntario con AKA Science
2 Ways to Get Involved:
Líder de clase de ciencia de AKA:
Class Leaders are needed to teach our fun, hands-on after school science program to elementary school students. Classes are held in the Portland Metro area for 7-9 weeks. Each class is typically 1 hour per week and engages 10-15 students. AKA Science Class Leaders receive training in innovative teaching methods and the specific activities in the curriculum. The curriculum and all supplies are provided.
AKA Science Kit Builder:
Kit Builders are needed to count, sort, and bundle supplies to fill the science kits for each AKA Science after-school class. It’s easy work…but with 80 kits to assemble each school term, there’s lots to do! This is a casual, low-key volunteer opportunity for anyone who enjoys organization, details, and teamwork.
Kit-building takes place at the Impact NW Dancing Tree Family Center (10055 E Burnside St., Portland, OR 97216). There’s flexibility around what time to come on a particular day, though a commitment of at least 2 hours would be great!
We seek Kit Builders who are over the age of 18 or 13+ with an adult companion. Kit Builders may be asked to sit, bend, and do light lifting, but we can provide tasks flexibly based on volunteers’ physical needs. Applicants for this position will receive a list of upcoming kit building dates and times ~or~ an update about when more dates will be scheduled.
