Yolanda Gallegos first came to Impact NW’s teen center as a troubled teenager. She worked with Impact NW over the years to complete her high school education, find employment and earn a college degree. Today, she is a teacher in North Portland, where she has returned to provide others the encouragement to fulfill their dreams and establish a prosperous, safe family life. Impact NW has awarded the Yolanda Award to exceptional Impact NW clients for more than a decade to honor the heroic human spirit that Ms. Gallegos’ story exemplifies.
Anthony Eddings – 2017 Awardee
Anthony Eddings and one of his twin sons.
After experiencing domestic violence, splitting with his wife and seeing his children taken into foster care, Anthony found himself searching for the stable housing that would reunite his family. But he hit barrier after barrier.
“I was trying everything I could think of, doing everything I knew to do,” he says. “There are hardly any resources for single fathers.”
That’s when Anthony found Impact NW and the chance he had been seeking. “Impact NW was the first place that opened its doors to me as a single parent,” explained Anthony.
