Yolanda Gallegos first came to Impact NW’s teen center as a troubled teenager. She worked with Impact NW over the years to complete her high school education, find employment and earn a college degree. Today, she is a teacher in North Portland, where she has returned to provide others the encouragement to fulfill their dreams and establish a prosperous, safe family life. Impact NW has awarded the Yolanda Award to exceptional Impact NW clients for more than a decade to honor the heroic human spirit that Ms. Gallegos’ story exemplifies.

2017 Yolanda Award Recipient
As a single dad who suffered domestic abuse from his ex-wife, Anthony struggled to find someone who would help him. With few options available to help him find housing and get his kids back from foster care, he faced having to move back south where he grew up.
But once Anthony secured an apartment at Impact NW’s transitional housing facility, everything started to turn around.
“Impact NW was a gateway to help me figure out what I wanted to do, which for me is to start a support group for single fathers. They got me on the right track, and helped me figure out what I need to do. And now my kids are thriving more every day.
