Impact NW is proud to act as a fiscal sponsor for many worthy causes in the Portland Metro area.
A fiscal sponsor is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization that acts as a sponsor for a project or group that does not have its own tax-exempt status. Grants or contributions are made to the fiscal sponsor, which manages the funds.
As a fiscal sponsor, Impact NW offers our legal and tax-exempt status to groups engaged in activities related to our mission. For example, in 2003 Impact NW became the fiscal sponsor of the Brentwood Darlington Community Center, where many of our youth programs are located.
Other projects Impact NW have sponsored or currently sponsor include: West Portland Skate Project, Mt. Scott Park Center for Learning, Sunnyside Environmental School PTA, NW Reading Clinic, Complete Skate, Steve Baker Colorectal Cancer Association, Portland Afoot, The Black Fatherhood Project, PDX Summer School, Somali American Coalition of Oregon, Children’s Opportunity Fund of Washington County, Collective Force and Bikes for Humanity. Kids on the Block Awareness Program, Senior GAP, and Urban Opportunities began their partnerships by being fiscally sponsored, and eventually chose to become programs of Impact NW.
Our fiscal sponsorships typically involve a fee-based contractual arrangement between a project and Impact NW, enabling these projects to share a common administrative platform, thus increasing efficiency.
In addition to legal status, we can provide payroll, employee benefits, office space, publicity, fundraising assistance, and training services, sparing projects the necessity of developing these resources and allowing them to focus on programmatic activities.
Projects may seek fiscal sponsorship for various reasons: an anticipated short lifespan, improved access to funding, increased credibility, and low-cost financial and administrative services. Fiscal sponsors can also assist emerging projects in developing the necessary organizational capabilities to eventually spin off as independent non-profits.
